L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate calcium, also called as 6s-5-methyltetrahydrofolate calcium; levomefolate calcium; L-5-MTHF-Ca; L-MTHF-Ca; L-MTHF. it is a synthetic derivative of folic acid, naturally occurring form of folate. It is synthesized by reduction of folic acid to tetrahydrofolic acid followed by methylation and diastereoselective crystallization of L-5-MTHF as its calcium salt.
L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate calcium is a naturally occurring salt forming methyl derivative of folic acid, which is the most biologically active & functional folic acid form, it is more easily absorbed than ordinary folic acid, common folic acid must be converted to type I methyl folate in order to participate in two major metabolic pathways: methylation and DNA synthesis. and the form of free folate is 5-mthf normall present in human plasma and cells.
Function of L-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate calcium
1)L‐Methylfolate Calcium is a bioavailable source of folate.
2) As a dietary supplementation with folic acid or L-5-MTHF calcium are recommended to improve folate status and prevent adverse effects associated with folate deficiency.
3) L‐Methylfolate Calcium is safe under the proposed uses for infants and young children.
4) L‐Methylfolate Calcium has potential use in depression.
5) Our bodies need L‐methylfolate calcium to produce red blood cells. deficiency can lead to anemia or a low red blood cell count.
6) L‐Methylfolate Calcium plays a significant role during pregnancy because it prevents mothers keeping away from calcium deficiency while ensures infant grows healthly.
7) Other functions of L‐Methylfolate Calcium include repairing DNA, aiding and supporting immune functions, the body’s detoxification system, energy production and so on.
